Emmitsburg, MD

My work sent me to some FEMA training in Emmitsburg, Maryland. I was excited to go and ended up having a great time. It was really great training and we had a good group of people in our class.

The campus where the training is and where we stayed was a campus of nuns and nurses.  They used this campus as a field hospital and MORGE during Gettysburg....how LOVELY is that. PLUS there is a cemetary of all the nuns right smack next to the campus where  Saint Elizabeth Seton was buried. However they later decided to exhume her body and bury it ON the campus. Can anyone say HAUNTED!!! Needless to say I was a nervous wreck.

Here is my dorm room, and yes, yes that is a tiny twin bed. Can't complain though, it wasn't too bad, very clean and I had my own bathroom.

Me with a new friend Melanie. She sat at our table and was from South Jordan, Utah! She was a blast to hang out with. We're in front of the Ott House which was about a 10 min walk from the campus. Good food and beer!

The Campus

This is the nun cemetary were Saint Elizabeth Seton was orginally buried.

It was getting a little dark by the time we walked home but this was an amazing place. In an strange way it was very peaceful.

The next day we took a audio tour of Gettysburg. Where you buy a CD for your car and it guides you through. It was pretty neat. The first stop was at the cemetary. It was INSANE. I didn't take too many pictures there, but there were thousands of just little stones with a number on them, of unidentified bodies. So sad.

The road we traveled down had these canons just lined up the whole road. This was there defense line shooting down into the field.

This is where the canons were aimed at.

The set up a pretty high look out tower for the tour so you can look out over Gettysburg. It was amazing.

Looking out from Little Round Top.

There is so much history there it amazing. I'm usually not a history buff but this place sure has you wanting to learn more.

One thing to add to the insanity of this war, it occurred July 1st-3rd...we were there mid July, it was 105 degrees with absolutely off the charts humidty. Those soldiers were wearing wool uniforms, I can not even imagine what they went through.

This statue was on campus which they light up at night. A very nice display of those lost in 9/11.
